Fire Prevention and Protecting Your Family

Did you know each year house fires attribute to at least 1,500 injuries and millions of dollars in property loss? A lot of these fires are connected to electrical failures and appliance defects, but the majority of them have been linked to poor maintenance of electrical wiring and extension cords. Not only are electrical fires are to blame, 42 home candle fires are reported every day.

Protect your family and your home by never overloading extension cords or wall sockets. Also, replace all worn, old, or damaged cords immediately. Remember to check your fire alarms every 6 months to make sure they are working correctly and replacing the batteries.

Reminder: Never attempt to douse an electrical fire with water. Instead use a fire extinguisher available that is rated “A-B-C,” which means that it is capable of putting out electrical wires.
